SCHRDULE A MEET & GREET TODAY
There are well educated, responsible, and dependable people on Rover / WAG.
There are also people on Rover /WAG who have bad intentions.
I know many people who use this platform because it is more cost effective than hiring a professional who does this for a living.
I understand this is a luxury service that can be pricey at times.
But look at all that you are getting for your money.
1. Insurance
2. Bond
3. A REAL background check
4. Backup staff
5. 24/7 on call business owner
6. Ongoing education
7. Supporting a local small business and the people who work for it
8. Years of experience
And again, I understand sometimes we can only do what our budget allows.
But if you MUST use this app ALWAYS ask the following questions:
1. Do you carry your own insurance?
2. Can I call you at any time while we are away?
3. Can you provide references (not family/friends)?
4. What experience do you have caring for pets?
5. How will you handle any emergencies that may arise?
6. Will I get to meet you face to face before you provide services?
7. Are you following the CO law by paying a fee and having your home inspected (this is for anyone boarding pets in their home for profit as they MUST have a kennel license to do so).
8. How will you keep me updated while I’m away?
9. Do you have first aid CPR training for animals?
10. Who will be your backup if something happens to you?
11. Do you have a pet transport license? Is your vehicle reliable in case of an emergency? Vehicle insurance (Liability reasons)
12. Will you kennel my pet while your home? Or do they roam free? At night?
13. Do you feed them all in one area?
14. How much yard play time will my pet have?
15. Do you walk my pet while at your home?
16. Where is the nearest Vet you will take my pet in case of an emergency (24 hour pet hospital)
If they can’t provide acceptable answers to these questions then I would say it’s time to call a professional. Remember it can be life or death.
CNN Business spoke with six pet owners who said their dogs have gone missing or died while in the care of a sitter they found on Rover's platform since the start of the pandemic. All of them said they turned to the platform because it was a recognizable name in the industry, and they felt more comfortable after reading positive reviews of their respective sitters on the site. One pet owner said her sitter remained on the platform for months after her dogs were lost while in the sitter's care. (Rover declined to comment on this claim.) Another owner, whose dog was found dead with no explanation, said the sitter whose care he was in remains live on the platform. (Rover said it is reviewing this matter.)
